Mainville CMP Match

When: Saturday, September 7, 2024, 9:30 am

Cost: There will be a $10.00 entry fee per shooter; junior shooter fee is $5.00. Shooters must provide their own rifles and ammunition as well as eye/ear protection, chamber flags, shooting mats for prone shooting (if the shooter chooses to use a mat), etc.

Shooters: Please try to be there and ready to go on time because the match director is doing this for the first time. Your rifle should be zeroed before September 7.

Match sign-up begins at 9:30 am. The safety briefing will begin at 10:00 am or when sign-up is completed.

At least two RSOs will be in attendance and all CMP safety rules will be enforced strictly. Mainville is going to be a CMP affiliate club so rules compliance will be very important. Please make sure you have chamber flags, and as always eye and ear protection is required.

Mainville Sportsmen’s Club will provide all targets and score sheets (individual shooters will NOT score their own targets).

Course of Fire

The match will consist of the As-Issued Military Rifle Course A using CMP-standard SR-1 targets at 100 yards. This will save time in pulling targets, etc. because we don’t have downrange pits. The As-Issued Military Rifle Course A consists of the following stages:

  1. Sighting (slow, any position, 5 shots).
  2. First stage (slow prone, 10 shots, 15 minutes total for sighting and prone slow).
  3. Second stage (rapid prone from standing, 20 shots, 80 seconds).
  4. Third stage (slow standing, 10 shots, 10 minutes)

There’s no prize money; this is just for fun, learning, and bragging rights. Please remember that this is the first CMP match in a long time and the first match for the director, and there may be some hiccups. Please give grace as much as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions (so far)

Q: “What’s an As-Issued Military Rifle?”

A: An As-Issued Military Rifle is defined as M1 Garand, Springfield ’03, Vintage Military Rifle (covers a lot of ground, and the director is of the opinion that it includes SKS and AK type rifles/carbines) or Modern Military Rifle (AR-Type). These enumerations are taken straight from the CMP rulebook. The working assumption is that as-issued = iron sights.

Q: I don’t have an as-issued military rifle. Can I use (fill in the blank)?

A: For this inaugural CMP match we don’t intend to turn away shooters. However, the type will be noted on the scoresheets and shooters will likely be placed in an Open division.

Q: May I use an optic?

A: For this inaugural CMP match we don’t intend to turn away shooters. However, the use of optic will be noted on the scoresheets and shooters will likely be placed in an Open or Military Rifle/Optic division.

Note: Only As-Issued Military Rifles will have shooter scores submitted to CMP. Scores of all shooters/divisions will be published on the club website after the match (and after compiling and data entry).
